After continually finding fresh water in the forward bilge at the end of the weekend, I put it down to a leak in the pipework.
Further investigation found that the heads sinks don't actually flush outside the boat, they empty into the shower sump. Because we haven't used the heads showers I don't turn on the shower sump pump, so over the weekend it fills up and overflows into the bilge.

Is this normal? I expected that the heads sinks would empty outside the boat, same as the galley. Not a problem now that I know about it, but I'm just curious why this is setup like it is.

When we were buying our V42, your exact problem was pointed out to us as a weakness. On the Bavaria sink waste just "fell out" from an above-the-water-line skin fitting.

Any water going down a plug hole on ours is pumped out, and our first expense was a new mid ships shower sump pump, now also coupled to a water witch, as a back up.

When we went out in March, the pump to the sump under the mid cabin decided to pack up and I only realised after about 200 litres had over flowed into the bilge!

On my Azi, the galley sink empties overboard. The 2 heads sinks and showers empty to a smallish grey tank. This pumps out automatically. Sounds like your Prinny set up is similar?

OK thankyou gents, it looks like it is a more common setup that I first thought. Only thing that I still need to investigate is why I have five above water skin fittings on the port side, and only three of the seem to be used. 2 x galley sinks and 1 x shower sump.

I may look into a water witch as a backup to the shower sump pump. I'd hate it to fail when were away for a week.

You may find at least one is a bilge pump outlet

This happened to me too, the first week I owned my P40! It's misleading for Princess to label the breaker switch "Shower discharge pump" instead of "Shower/basin sump pumpout", but thats just a niggle for an exceptional boat (imho). The electrical connection box for the sump pump is mounted directly to the top of the perspex lid of the sump box, so will flood when the sump overflows, especially if the lid retaining clips are nice and tight :) Suggest you remove connection box lid, inspect and if necessary wash connections with DI water then dry to avoid latent corrosion problems. A better long term solution is to mount it higher where it can't flood.

I did notice that. I do intend to look at overhauling the system and making a few modifications, I agree the electrical connections are not particularly well suited.
