I have a Heads dual action hand pump. It is pumping out but not sucking in. The inlet seacock and pipe are clear (I checked with an endoscope).

Before I start stripping the pump, what are the most likely problems?

Thanks

Is it the Jabsco type? If so, check the little diverter lever is pushed FULLY to the left. That is the most common reason. However, I just had the same problem. Lever fully left did not solve it this time. Fitted new valves in the top part of the pump, that did not achieve anything. Changed the O-ring on the main piston, perfect! Now works perfectly. I did not initially suspect the piston as it was pumping out OK but obviously a small bypass leakage affected the flush suction more than the pumpout.

That’s a rotten little button and I know at least one person who would not be happy with it. I would personally change it for a Jabsco which would be easier to operate and pump more water, though the bowl looks fine. If you don’t want to do that, then I’d do what I always do and take it all to bits and see what’s wrong or not in place.

In any case it looks like a good cleaning of the whole area would benefit it and its users.

Yes, a good scub is in the plan.

Is it possible bke to fit a jabasco type pump. How do you match up the pipes, especially the soil pipe, that is what this pump attaches to at the base.

The pipes of the Jabsco both attach at the rear and somewhat higher, bit I think that a bit of fiddling with hose should be easy enough. Both hoses might need changing rather than extending but the result will be worth the effort. The base will be different but not unbodgable.

How likelt is it that a jabasco pump would fit the flange of the waterloo soil pipe?

I've taken the waterloo pump apart and the flange is 62.5mm diameter. Anyone know what the jabasco pump opening is?
