Thought I had my list of winter jobs sorted, then the night before lift out noticed my heads was filled with water even though the lever was on pump dry and the bowl had been emptied. I pumped dry again but when lifted onto its cradle it discharged a blast of-thankfully-water onto a helpful sailing clubmembers head. It also makes a whooshing sound after a final pump though I had thought this was normal. I believe it is an SL400. Any suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like a valve stuck open. The Panacea for most boggie problems is a tablespoonful of cooking oil down the bog'ole and pumped through.
