Having just pumped out both holding tanks and with one diverter set to SEA I noticed that the relevant tank guage has crept up to half full. This is a manual WC and both inlet snd outlet sea cocks are open. So I'm guessing that the valve must be faulty. How best to approach the issue? The diverter handle sits on top of a metal plate secured to the wall with 4 retaining screws in the corners and 3 further screws surrounding the handle. Not sure what to do first. Remove the corner screws? I don't want anything behind the panel to drop out of sight and reach.

It's very unlikely the diverter valve would fail in this manner. I would check for something else first.

But yes, remove those 4 screws and follow your nose from there (boom boom). Then you'll able to get the valve out (by undoing the 3 screws), then remove the 3 hoses from the valve, and replace it
