Hi all,

One of the jobs for next Winter is replacing the headlining and side panels in my Westerly Berwick, which by then will be berthed in Ipswich. My mate and I don't mind having a go at the main cabin, but the forecabin looks tricky with all the angles. Does anyone have a recommendation for a professional to do this work in the East Coast?

Hi Dennis,

This is a problem I struggled with for a while, suffering disappointing performance from an East Coast specialist. In frustration, I contacted two Marine interior trimmers who had previously worked for Westerly. One of them came back with a quote to replace all the head linings in the fore cabin aft cabin and heads for a price lower than the Easy Coast company had offered, including his travel and accommodation - he had to travel rom Dorset to SYH to do the job. His time estimate was 7 days.

I arranged to meet him on the Monday morning he was due to start and was delayed getting there by (yet another) accident on the A12. Just before we were due to meet, he called to a apologise because he was delayed by the same event. A quick brief and he set to work immediately. On the Thursday he called to say it was going well and he expected to finish by the end of Friday and would I like to come and check his work. Of course I did and found a wonderful job. He had even fixed a couple of deficiencies in the saloon head lining done the previous year by the East Coast company and some upholstery issues that were wanting attention. Naturally I was most pleased so paid him in full with a bonus for his excellent work. When sold the boat 3 years later, both the broker an the buyer were most impressed with the quality of the head lining.

This guy goes by the name of Roger Nantais - contact details here:

He has also cooperated with PBO for an article on head lining refurbishment:

Apparently he travels all over Europe doing this work. I have no involvement in his business other than as a very satisfied customer, nearly 10 year ago.

I also used Roger Nantais a few years ago. I didn't even meet him, instead agreed a date 4 months ahead, posted the keys to him. He confirmed a month beforehand and did the job in the agreed week and to the agreed price and cleaned up afterwards. First class all round.
I did remove everything from the boat and had removed the windows for re-furbishing.
Regards

Good point about removing everything from the boat, the dust from face off disks gets everywhere. Cover the cooker, heads, engine etc. securely, it saves a lot of work later. How do I know?

Good point - we'll make sure to do that.
