Head Torch

Discovered the delights of an LED head toarch recently - what a great invention, I must try and keep up. Does anybody make one with red LEDs?

Had one with flashing red leds, which is probably not much help - you could always stick red cellophane over the lens?

I've got an Eveready one with white and red LEDs and a two way switch. Loads of different ones in most good outdoors shops.

Works well but I'm not sure how waterproof it really is. I would prefer the slide switch to be a bit harder to operate as it once switched on in my bag.

Have a look at the Silva range of head torches.

the one with the orange/black headband comes with a red LED.

The last one I bought cost new on Ebay £12.50 +pp

I picked up an Everyready one in B&Q last week for 8 quid, it has 1 red & 3 white LEDs.

Slightly related; has anyone tried the LED hand torches that Tesco are selling? I have the AA & the C versions..they are stunning!

Head torch

I did some research and I reckon the best one is the Petzel Tikka XP. Don't buy cheapo makes as they are not so bright and you'll see bu**er all at night. It comes with a sliding cover for which you can buy coloured filters. So standard colour is white, then I've fitted the red slide which I use at night. It also has brightness adjustment and a flash mode. Not the cheapest, but IMHO the best.

Got mine in one of those chinese cheepo shops. It is very pwerfull and now dont know what I would do without it. Have been using it for 3 month. Only cost 5 euros

I have a Silva headtorch (Xmas present last year, came from the Force 4 catalogue I believe). When you switch it on, the red LED comes on first - to protect night vision I guess), then when you push the button you get white, and further pushes increase brightness. Brilliant!
