Could someone please confirm the names of the 4 racing marks outside chichester harbour entrance.

I have in my mind that they are called Chi, W-E, Bay and Hard.

But I expect they have changed the names as I have not been in that neck of the woods for a couple of years.

TIA

I don't think W-E is still there ... at least havn't seen it for a year or two. Good thing too .... was an absolute menace approaching Chi in the dark. IMHO all racing marks should be soft inflateables; highly visible; and well away from frequented routes. The mooring line should also be no more than 6mm rope to give rope-strippers a fighting chance if you do catch one at night.

Thos Solent racing buoys are a menace, 4ft diameter rusty steel. On youngest daughter's first trip out I left her on the helm while I went below, with instructions to 'head for that buoy'. She hit it. (Ever since of course I have dragged it up at intervals - 'can't stay away from the buoys' etc. It was almost worth the effort of repairing the topsides).

Many thanks for your replies.

I totally agree with you about the marks. I had a near miss with one a couple of years ago going in to portsmouth between the forts, just out side the main channel in the dark. ( a few more metres closer and it would of be curtains).

Just checking the marks are still there outside Chi as they are not marked on my chart. And I can account for them when arriving in the dark.
