I have 12mm anchor rope which I want to splice onto my chain.
If I use a stock standard stainless thimble for 12mm rope, the spliced loop is too big to fit through the hawser pipe in the deck to the anchor locker.
I suspect there is some rule of thumb to the amount of freedom between the splice and the chain shackle.
The hawser pipe through the deck is 55mm in diameter.
Boat is 8m.
I understand a long time solution would be to change the hawser pipe to an anchor locker hatch - as I do not have a good roller to store the anchor on the pullpit anyway at present, this would solve a lot of problems..
Does anybody have any good ideas or ideas on reducing the size of the rope splice for the chain shackle.
