I have some old Majoni fenders plus a new dock fender, and I can't get them to inflate.

I bought a Majoni adapter which I have connected to my car tyre inflator pump. The pressure gauge shows 60psi, but does not inflate the fender. I have confirmed that air is coming out of the adapter when not connected.

Am I missing something?

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Majoni brass fender valves have a steel ball and spring inside which tends to fail after a few years of exposure to salt water. You can easily replace the valve, just screw on the adaptor and yank it out. New one just pushes in. Valves are much cheaper by the dozen on ebay rather than individually from the local chandler.

60psi is way, way too high and is telling you that something is seized shut. Majoni say 0.2 bar. pressure. Screw your adaptor on to one of the failed valves, pull it out and and see what happens when you pump.

I had some dock fenders; unused for a few years since I bought them. When I came to fit them, I couldn't inflate them, I found that in the slush moulding manufacturing process, the valves were covered with PVC ! I sliced the rear open and filled them with slivers of ( foamed) PE pipe insulation, sealed with PU. It worked very well indeed; no rebound like an air inflated fender.

All lost i the marina devastation caused by hurricane Emma.

I cant inflate my Majoni dock fenders either. Have the adaptor and a bike pump, but no air will go in. The best way is a high pressure compressor pump. A chandlery will inflate your fenders for you.

Managed to do it by using a non-specific plastic adapter pushed flat against fender.

As I bought it online, I would have felt a bit guilty asking the chandlery to do it, even though I wasted my money buying the Majoni adapter!

Thanks folks for the responses.

I too have clearly not got the knack for this. I have a new fender and a new replacement valve (the original having failed the first night - not impressed!), the Marjoni adapter and a bicycle pump. I have fitted the new valve, but cannot great any air in! Should I be using the thread at all? Or just holding the adapter to the valve without threading? Any advice?

Last night on board and could really do with this job being ticked off the to do list!

TIA!

After a bit of lateral thinking, I pulled the valve, inflated the fender and then very quickly reinserted the valve! Not perfect, and far from satisfactory, but fender now inflated!

I’ve had the same problem, ended up taking the fender to a garage with an air line, just placed it over the valve, pulled the inflation trigger and within a few seconds , job done.
