One of the boats I teach on is going to be used for master classes at the RYA power and sail muster in Cowes, on the 28th and 29th of October, and they have asked raggies to have a go.

now do you think this is a good idea or should we keep the mystery of driving power boats all to ourselves /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.LOL /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Before you give the yotties the keys, ask'em why they all park bow to on finger pontoons leaving the sharp bits hanging over the pontoon to catch the unwary, rather than reversing in. Surely if they can reverse out they can learn to reverse in. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Judging from the way they handle 15 hp. I cant imagine the carnage with 500 hp

[/ QUOTE ] /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Too right, for some anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

PS: We always moor bow in when using fingers, but spring her back so there is no over hanging bits. Reasons:
a) Aft cabin more privacy and view out transom windows
b) cockpit privacy
c) dingy and davits free for use

Most my pals moor stern in, including the aft cabin ones /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We seem to have two types at Sparkes, those that know their limitations and only go our when they can handle the wind, berthing and those that go regardless, usually visitors.

Last week a visitor wrapped themselves around a dinghy on snap davits, ripping it off and then pranged the jetty. Minutes later they were springing off at full power and before the the spring was back onboard, they were at about 6 knots! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The helm's eyes were out on stalks as he aimed at the narrow channel close on 8 knots and still accelerating.

A Real Turkey, at that speed, it's no wonder he's early for Xmas. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes why do yachties need so many crew anyway /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I've been handling our 42ft and then 38ft single handed for years in all weather, wind and current. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
