A few years back I used to work with Haverhill welder/generaters in the 5 to 10 kva range, these had a slipper ring system with quite large copper carbon brushes, probably 10 x 20mm sectional size x 25-30mm long. mounted in pivoting brass holders which were mounted on pivot posts.
The opposing brushes had a spring attached between them to effect good contact on the comutator rings.
I am now trying to find a set of these brushes and holders in order to make up a slipper ring annode system for my propshaft, something similar to the MG Duff system which I can not afford.
Have any of you come across these welders/gennies, or know where I could get a set of these brushes and holders? Thanks.

Eamonn, you could use a cylinder honing brush, as it is like a wire brush with carbon balls on the end - good conductivity and should last a while while having flexibility to maintain a constant sprung force on the propshaft. Easier to manufacture the mounting brackets as no adjustment required.

Thanks for the link to the brushes, ideal but I was hoping to find the pivoting type holders too.
What is the company that this link came from as they might sell holders too?
Jim, I would have imagined the delepino (spelling?) would have abrasive stone as opposed to carbon, plus the available space for mounting is not too big.
Hope you are keeping well Jim.
Thanks,C_W

No, they are carbon, as they need to be an extremely fine abrasive.
