I am looking for a GPS receiver for my Nasa AIS Radar, PC laptop running Software on Board and C-Map charts and my Navman DSC VHF.

I have on Ebay a GPS Antenna Receiver called Evermore from Wave Tech UK Ebay Item number: 110943070481

On the face of it this seems just the thing, but before ordering I thought I would ask if anyone has used one and knows how well or poorly they work?

Thanks

Got one, works perfectly. Can't remember who I bought it off on ebay. I have the DGPS version with RS232 connection. Nothing wrong with it. Did have an issue getting my Furuno GP31 to recognise it but believe that is a problem with the GP31. I feed it into the Furuno Navtex for the alternative display and so have GPS displayed on the GP31 and DGPS displayed on the Navtex and output the Evermore signal to my laptop for the surveys I do (see www.crossingthethamesestuary.com).

We've had one fitted for several years now to replace the receiver for a Lowrance chartplotter that had failed.

So far it has worked without any problems. It holds a fix better than the original ever did (was prone to lose lock every now and again) and it gets a position very soon after switching it on.

I have two.
One feeds the VHF radio, and works fine. Been on there for 3 years.

The other I bought last year and I've connected it to a NASA GPS repeater and have had it working well on land but not yet fitted it to the boat (next winter project).

Both bought on Ebay and at a very good price.

I have one, which replaced a failing VDO Logic GPS "mushroom". It has performed faultlessly, linked to a VDO Siemens chartplotter, and supplying position data from there to the VHF, the autopilot and the main instrument system.

Evermore supply the SA-320 both in NMEA 0183 bare wire configuration (which is what I have), and with USB connection for use with a laptop. Provided your NASA AIS will receive NMEA 0183 input it should be fine. The unit outputs the following NMEA messages, GGA, GLL, GSA, GSV, RMC, and VTG. The manuals for your AIS should tell you what NMEA sentences it requires. Whether one GPS will feed both the AIS and the VHF depends whether they both read the same sentences, but one NMEA talker should be able to supply two listeners. The Actisense NMEA 0183 datasheet is very useful when you have to work out how to connect things, and has a list of NMEA sentences which will explain the above.

When I bought mine the cheapest source was direct from the importer. They are on Amazon now for £65.

EDIT People complaining that they cannot make it work are either trying to connect it to an incompatible device, or failing to set the baud rate of the receiving device to 4800.

Evermore seem to build good quality products at reasonable prices.

Off topic somewhat, but when we considered stocking this GPS antenna I was amused to note that our contact in Taiwan went by the wonderfully appropriate name of Ariel Cheng!

I'm considering changing my name to Antenna John.
