I have asked a question about rigging my new-to-me Colvic Atlanta Mullion 32 on the scuttlebut forum. I need to rig my boat and would like to look at any other identical boats (either aft-cockpit or aft-cabin) and ideally have a chat with their owners about sail and rig performance. If you are aware of any such boats nearby I would be very gratefull if you would let me know.

My boat is on the hard at Levington at the moment but should be on the Deben shortly.

Colvic Atlanta contacts

Hello,

I have a centre cockpit Colvic Atlanta ketch that I am renovating at the moment and would like to contact other owners to discuss the boat.

I do have a question about what actually supports the cockpit.

It looks as though mine may have dropped slightly resulting in scuppers that are not horizontal and effecting drainage.

The rear of my cockpit has a massive wooden beam which goes across the boat. Is it the front or the rear which you suspect has dropped? If she is on land it could be that your boat is not level.

Hello, Thank you for your reply.

She is afloat, both front and rear have dropped.

There is a one inch ply bulkhead under each end, both have started to rot and I am in the process of replacing them - just cut the rear one.

I also had two water and two fuel tanks mounted on eight (two each) plywood bearers and these also gave support to the cockpit before being dislodged when the cockpit dropped.

You appear to have a different (and better) arrangement with a much more substantial beam. What supports your beams?

Did you sort your rigging? Mine all goes to chain-plates on the top of the toe-rail, not to the scupper walkway. Can send some pictures if they would be of any interest.

My boat was completed by a Bremen boatyard and the masts are in tabernacles.

I have a copy of the plan of the interior layout. There is a 20mm marine ply bulkhead between the engine and the main cabin with a 3inch by 2inch timber running along the top.

The rear beam is 9inch by 3inch and goes across from one side to the other. The plan doesn't show what supports it but if I go down to my boat this weekend I will take some photos of it.

Yes I got the rigging replaced with the mast sat over the bulkhead that is between the main cabin and the loo compartment. The shrouds go to U bolts on the top of the toe rails.
