Very nice looking boat. Did you cruise at 15kts all the way back, and any idea of fuel consumption at that speed?

Presumably you are/have changed the name? I assumed the previous owner had a scrapyard, or if not, it was a strange name for a boat.

I thought about the scrapyard connection, but its taken from the The Breakers hotel-Palm Beach ( as were some of the towels).
And Yes, my crew mates were Howard (Zippy) and Tim Griffin.
I hope I don't get the blame for starting of that cyclone about to hit India.

Heavy & beamy Hatt = big HP to move at speed = Big fuel bill... You were bound to notice the difference from the Picchotti .... The Hatt is not much longer, but boy is she wider .... 16 foot beam!!! ..... Just a thought ... what is the WOT on your DD's ... 2300 or 2600 RPM ??
 
WOT, not entirely sure, the best I have been able to research is 2350, although we couldn't reach that under load.

OK SD.... If this was in neutral (high idle), then we can assume you are rated at 2300 ... (that is good)... but your governor and engine should have a label stating this as well ...

Anyhoo ... you need that 2300 WOT under load ... if you are over propped, that is not good, so hopefully it's growth (or blocked diesel filters) that is causing you not reaching WOT 2300 under load.

Here's some info which you may already have.... 59,000 lbs = approx. 26 T ... not a lightweight 48 footer !!

Thanks Alf, I will look out for the label, the best we were able to achieve was a little over 2000, say 2050 or 2100. I have put this down to fouling, she has been in since the spring.. She was originally supplied as a Hatteras demo boat so hopefully they would have propped her to show best performance.

This is the older version of the 48 (1 foot narrower than yours), but it is interesting to see that she looks like she is most economic at displacement speed around 8 knot ... and her fuel figures increase by 50% by pushing her to 9 ... never mind the 15 you were doing....

Does this mean that when the video was shot and your RPM displayed was 2000, this was your set cruising speed for the whole journey ( and how many hours was this)? . .... what I imply here is that you may have run her at WOT all the way .... Ie' you took out all available HP, and had a fuel burn as if you were running WOT all the time (hence scary figures) without reaching the RPM the engines expect to achieve with that amount of fuel injected...

General rule should be with any engine .... if you cannot reach expected RPM, but only reach what you normally cruise at (as in this case) .... you still need to drop your RPM accordingly, as this now achieved lower max = 100% load on the engine ... and you should never knowingly run a leisure rated engine at 100% load for hours at end (emergency situations being one of the exceptions)...

Also is your helm RPM the same as your engine room instruments ?? (trust the ones in the engine room, not the ones at the helm).
