Morning all from gloriously sunny Melbourne...

I bought a used hatch some time back (a forehatch from the challenge business as a matter of fact) and I have only just got round to fitting it. I have noticed that the seal they put on it before they sent it to me has come away from the hatch lid at one corner and needs to be stuck back down again.

Any idea what kind of sticky substance I should be using to glue the seal down again..?

Cheers

Actually it's cloudy right now, but wait 5 minutes....

My hatch has a soft rubber seal which must compress a little. I'm told these things are available from Purple Pig rubber stores, or ClarkRubber which is supposed to be more expensive.

Here we go... just looked up the Whitworths catalogue, page 117. Four types available, from $4 a metre to $17 for 3 metres of the Vinyl Bear brand. Just in the rare case you don't know, www.whitworths.com.au on Elizabeth Street just up from the Vic market, diagonally opposite corner.

Gippsland eh? Not been there yet, but if it's cloudy I may not bother ;-)

Actually the seal itself is OK (brand new in fact), I just want to stick it back down to the hatch not replace it....

I was just in whitworths not ten minutes ago looking at bits of teak, why I didn't ask what they recommended when I was in there is completely beyond me

Try double-sided tape, unless experience proves it's not waterproof. If it would get water on it in that position. You can only try and see

The boat was in the Gippsland Lakes this morning, this computer looks out over a cloudy Ashburton/Chadstone area.

G'day Swanson37,

Sunny here in Qld. Sounds like you should remove the rest of the seal and re glue the whole thing, if one section has parted when under no stress how long will the rest last?

I suspect the hatch is anodised aluminium so may not have been etched or primed prior to gluing.

Tip Top SC-2000 should do a fine job, available from most tyre outlets.

Avagoodweekend......

I used a soft butyl "tape" that glaziers use. It comes in a roll and is really easy to use, when you tighten it oozes out and can be trimmed off with a piece of sharp wood.Put in my large front cabin windows 2 yrs ago and excellent.Should be easy to remove window in future ,if needed.
