Hopefully we'll be spending the night there tomorrow. So where's the best joint for the pie-loving middle aged clientelle? Nothing too sophisticated please as it's just the bro-in-law and myself - don't want to start any rumours now.

The lightship is great. Or jump on the ferry for a big choice in gunwharf. Or walk up the shopping st, out of the other end, keep going another few hundred yards and there is a cluster of 4 or 5 restaurants, indian, italian etc.

The Castle - go down past the Gossie Ferry and towards the entrance to Campers Marina and it is just on the right. Good honest pub grub - pies, mixed grill, roasts and the like.

Haslar is a really great marina (IMHO). It's clean, spacious and the staff are very friendly - we enjoy going there and it is just a quick ferry ride over to gunwarf where all the shops are.

+1 for the lightship, you could do a lot worse!

If you haven't moored yet, then get them to put you lower down than G as it is less rolly. Its not that bad even at its worst, but G down is a bit more protected. Light ship is good or Hardy's rest.

Thanks for the recommendations - we graced the Lightship with our presence.

We were hoping to go a bit further west but the marine forecast looks poor. Meanwhile back home they're looking forward to 32 degrees today!

If by Lightship you all mean the Mary Mouse 2 then you must all have low standards indeed! There is a Wetherspoons in town which although not the best food in the world, it is at least not a freezer and microwave job. The pub next to the ferry serves reasonable food too, as does the restaurant opposite the marina office. Personally I'd go over to Gunwharf to eat as the ferry is only a couple of quid.

A little tip for Haslar, when calling up ask for an inside berth and they will usually find you somewhere less rolly than the visitors pontoon.

This has changed hands recently and is now really rather good.

The Wetherspoons is fine if you like to dine in the precence of Gosports local P**s heads :) All IMHO of course :)

As has been said the lightship changed hands this year and is now fantastic.

That would be my choice by a country mile.

Henry :)

Restaurant recommendations are a very personal thing but in this instance about the Mary Mouse i am bound to declare you are wrong. It is rather good.

I suspect like many of us Lustyd was left traumatised by visiting when the previous people ran it. I haven't been since the new people have taken over but as all I've heard is good things about them they deserve praise for turning the Lightship round again.
