Could do with some help here, please. My Brookes and Gatehouse log,(probably about thirty years old), is giving a top speed rading of 2 knots whilst my gps tells me sog is 6.5 knots accross the tide. When I phoned B@G they told me that the impeller was worn out and must be replaced by a new type paddle wheel. The cost including a new sender unit,£300.Is there an alternative source for a new impeller of the original type?

I got a new impellor for my B&G unit for about £30 ish. Mine is a newer unit, but I can't remember what it is called - curse this alcohol! I will have a look tomorrow.

"Worn out" does that mean that the paddle has worn down to diminish its size. This should be obvious from lookinng at it. ie it should be as large as possible within the cavity.
They possibly mean the magnets have deteriated in magnetic power. This means they are only activating the sensor occasionally. The little pin magnets can be replaced or remagnetized. Perhaps by a coild around it and a large mojmentary current. PM me for ideas if you want.... olewill All assuming it is a paddle wheel type sender.

I've been to have a look, and mine is B&G Focus. The kit came with 'O' rings, a new axle, and a new impellor. I bought it from the electronics folk at Kip marina. There were two types available for different speed ratings, and I am fairly sure it was only about £30.
