Has anyone ever installed a transom shower

Hi guys

I own a Rinker 212 and quite fancy installing the transom shower set-up that they have on the Rinker 232.
Has anyone ever installed one?
How complex a job do you think it may be?

I am wondering whether the 232 unit would bolt on but the cost from Rinker may be too much so would probably go aftermarket.

To keep things simpler,i'd only have a cold water shower.

Any thoughts on this guys,anyone else thinking the same /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Would have thought it is a fairly straightforward DIY job. Don't know the boat but having sorted problems with mine over the winter I know the plumbing and fittings are not complicated. Routing pipework and probably cutting holes in GRP might be the most dificult parts but not insurmountable IMHO.
 
We were in Trebeurden marina a few years ago one evening in the summer , tha marina was quite busy.

Out comes this french woman on the transom platform of a motorboat on the pontoon opposite not a stitch on and has a shower soap shampoo the works.

Now that is a transom showere I approve of.

Normally they are used to get the sand off of your feet.
 
Both our more recent boats have had transom showers with H&C. Straight-forward connection into the ships water supplies as far as I can see and the last boat had a bog-standard domestic mixer fitting. The first owner of our current boat was such a fuss-pot he would never allow the 'indoor' showers to be used in case moisture damaged his pride and joy. Apparently, all his family and guests were obliged to shower on the bathing platform. His wife went just a tad aggressive when she was telling me this story!
 
Cheers Greg2,your right, cutting the hole,east enough but very daunting.I thought by just keeping to cold water it would make the job simpler.
Does anyone know where i could buy all this from before i spend hours trawling the web.
There is plenty of empty space either side of the engine also,which would make installation of a tank easy.

Pipe up the hot water as well, its lovely to shower off with warm water after getting a bit chilly in the water. Its a simple DIY job, and even if you mightily screwed it up, GRP repairs are simple.
 
Thinking of doing this on my Doral 230CC. It has a sink and pump but will the pump be up to doing a shower? We don't use the sink.

If not, we could definately use the water tank. I can see the above transom shower head or alternatives above, but what about the pump, any linkies? even better any kits?

Hi I also have a Rinker 212 of 1999 and I want to install a transom shower. Please let me know if you already purchased the water tank and which one you used. Are you planning to place it in the cabin? I was also thinking of connecting a sink to it. But tank is my obstacle at the moment, I didnt find one to fit in there yet.

Hi Slammer, I haven't been down to the boat to fit the shower yet! Weather, and a house move, just finished. Might go down this weekend but the weather, once again, looks crap.

My boat already had a tank on it and I plan to tap into it. There are some good "bag" based water tanks you can use but I have no experience of them. I'd try and fit it down the side of the boat if there are any cavities there rather than in the front.

I'll keep you posted on how it all goes.

Thank you Ballistix, if you already have a water tank on your rinker 212 this means I should have one too??? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I just bought the boat last week and havent check everything yet. Where is your tank located? I have just returned home from a boat ride since early morning, weather here in Cyprus was fine today but now 16:00 the wind became rough so I returned. Your feedback will be very useful when you get the chance to go to your boat for the shower installation.

Well, eventually got it done, took just about all day due to the fact that Doral decided to put a daft bit of pipe in for the water tank filling pipe. How on earth anyone thinks that a stiff pipe, see below, will bend at 90 degrees and stay there without kinking. So I had to replace that first with a new flexible pipe, 2 hours on top of the existing job.

With that done, I put the pump in next, I wanted it to be accessible so stuff it under a seat and behind a GRP upright. Works well there and easy for me to get to and it's fuse.

I then started on tapping the tank. This was a bit perplexing because no one could sell me a self tapping output. So I eventually heated up a copper connector and carefully screwed the hot connector into the tank, then sealed it with the usual suspect and it was tight and strong.

Lastly, the nasty bit, cutting the 3 inch hole for the shower head itself. This took a brave moment to make sure it was in the right place, to allow for water to drain into the bilge area if any dripped back through after use. Anyway, took a breath and just did it. I decided (against some forum suggestions) to put a second switch in on the back so people could just get in flick the switch and shower (second to the dash, so two switches in place).

It all works nicely and it's quite powerful. I can list the parts I used if anyone would like to know.
