I am considering a two week cruise in the Southern Baltic next summer. After searching the internet have come up with a potential German charter Company called PCO (Privat Charter Ostsee) which appears to organise the chartering of private owners' boats. Has anyone any experience of this Company?

PCO Question

We have chartered the last 2 years through PCO, once from Greifswald (Bavaria) and last year from Ueckermünde (Hanse). Both charters worked with the usual German efficiency and we did not experience any problems.
We did have to provide our certificates, my partner has the German 'Sportbootführerschein See' which is of course accepted in Germany and I have Day Skipper and ICC. If the yacht has VHF then you need the radio licence, my partner has the German SRC. I would recommend you check it out beforehand.
We had some great sailing and can recommend the marina at Kröslin and both Greifswald and Ueckermünde are worth stopping off for a look around. Try the 'backfish' reminds me of the battered fish I miss from England!
The sailing area can be shallow in places so you need to take some care, we never actually got to sail around the island of Rugen but its on the 'bucket list'.
This year on a way back to Ueckermünde the Stettiner Haff was rough even though its a fairly enclosed piece of water....we were happy to get back in the marina!
Have fun and enjoy.

PCO

Thanks for your comprehensive reply Petedg, I now feel a lot less apprehensive about sending my deposit to what might have been a black hole in Northern Germany! I have just received all their booking information by post, including a map with directions from our doorstep all the way to the marina!! Typical German efficiency! Now looking forward to a Baltic adventure.

Your welcome

I'd be interested to know which marina you use and how you get on. We will charter in the Baltic again, there's plenty to see.
