Harwich to Ostend- Advice...

Did passage plan for some friends who left from Wolverstone recently. we had a rendezvous at S galloper as we came down from Lowestoft.

Nothing much to worry about going across (just remember to miss Cork Sand at low tide /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

When you get to near to Ostende dont be confused by the anchorage. it looks like loads of boats in the TSS but they are at anchor.
As it says in almanac very tall building is visible from miles off.
It seems to be very important to ask permission to enter the harbour....you WILL be fined if you dont.

I am sure compie1 will give full details shortly. or PM me for more details.

Shipwash and Goodwins spring to mind if you are looking for 'family friendly'.

The problem with the North Sea is you need to keep a careful eye on 3 different weather areas in an attempt to predict where the waves are coming from and which set of waves you prefer to have in the same direction as the local tide flow.

If you are retired or a school teacher with loads of holidays you can ignore this and just choose the right day. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Much better than that...my boss is based 4000 miles away... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dougie thanks for that....

Given your recent post, if we manage to get the trip together, you might like to come with us either aboard or in convoy..??

At least that way, we can share the joy....or terror.. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

We have done the same trip in the same boat although we went to Ramsgate first then crossed. Just make sure the weather is right. Neiwport better in my opinion. Very nice Marina moorings there and no lock. Alot of large vessels in the shipping lane so,be careful if poor vis. Hard to see the port entrance till right on top of it. Good Luck!

pye end > south cork (leave 3 cables to port, as its got very shallow bits)

s.cork > north east gunfleet

n.e.g. > long sand head

l.s.e. > Oostende

there is a shipping anchorage on track between the TSS & the inshore shipping lane from west hinder

moor in the Montgomery Dock ( R.N.S.Y.C. ) right in the "action " & lively

have a good one

Sorry for the belated thanks for this info, I've just struggled back from Boston....all normal when I left the UK and now I've had to donate my toothpaste, shaving foam and a nice bottle of pong to Hilton so I could come back....
Still, I'll console myself by curling up with North Sea Passage Plans which has just been delivered... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
