We are thinking of visiting Harwich for the sea festival and lifeboat day. I'd quite like to dress the boat over all but I've never done it before. Im planning to get some signal flags but any idea what should I be flying in the way of burgees or courtesy flags? RNLI pennant? With being so tiny we risk looking like a bit of a joke but it would be nice to get involved!

If you Google you can get the 'official' order for the signal flags.
Are you a member of a sailing club? If so that burgee should be at masthead or if too full up with gizmos at the starboard spreader. Courtesy flags should not be used as part of dressing overall, unless of course you are abroad, although some clubs at late season meets fly the courtesy flags of the countries they have visited that season.
The Union Flag has no place on a boat unless you are a RN ship!! There is a Pilot Jack that goes at the bow or looks very effective on a weighted line from the tip of a bowsprit!!
Have fun.

A quick Google tells me this is what proper sailors are wearing in 2015....

Thanks gents :)

I have acquired some 'nautical bunting' (signal flags :)) and also found that I had an RNLI pennant stashed away. Its actually a code numeral 3 pennant with 'RNLI' printed in the white part. No idea where it came from (anyone?) but thinking it might get an airing... From the masthead or the spreader though?

A Union Jack looks lovely on a boat, we fly ours from the mizzen peak but I love the idea of the bowsprit with a weight.
