Great pics, must have been fab sailing into Paris!
How fast were you going past LandsEnd? Looked a bit bumpy!

Hi sneds, we were doing about 15 up and 27 down, but we did most of the trip at about 25 its was an bit sporty at times more so when we got a net round prop just before long ships. Had a bad fill warning alarms came on (water in fuel) just as we hit portland bill so into weymouth filters changed. The trip was great meet some new people, (some would find cardiff barrage) a bit much as there not use to locks, so we stayed at the back out the way, trip well worth doing the sights are fab got loads of pics will post the odd few when i get them sorted out, derv £ 1.40 over there good job we were doing 0.4 gph when going up the river.so who is going to cardiff on the 10 oct

the gph isnt a lot of help since I dont know what speed you were doing.

reason for asking is idle wondering whether I would be able to afford the running costs of a mobo when (and not too long) I am no longer up to hoisting and winching on my sailing boat. hence "trip to combe = £60 miles x ? mpg" type of calculation

not that often you hear from a mobo that has ventured as far as you have and many yotties do, so your experience is interesting.

Cost us £70 Cardiff to Barry and back in 18' with 175hp. Yacht would have been nothing!
Swmbo insists mobos must be sold.
Edit- that was doing nearly 80knts though.

Hi Kelvin,

Dont know if you went to the SIBS, looked over the new Janneau prestige 39 looked a very nice boat I thought in the size and price bracket it was one of the best available, as a prestige owner what did you think.

We get about 1mpg at 18 - 20 knts. (maybe upto 1.2mpg somtimes)
Boat is 37ft and about 9 tonnes

So £5 per mile. So a weekend trip from Cardiff to Combe and back is maybe £600.

Well that kills that idea. And I now understand why most mobos dont go anywhere much and seem to be owned by small (cash only ? :D) businessmen.

never been a small cash buisnessman and my spare time is priceless so I need to do as much when I can but if you need a ride sometime let me know. long time dead

I wish "Cash Only".

Every single penny in my business is electronic :-(

Portishead to Cardiff and back is about £150 and Portishead to Watchet and back is £200 ish.

A friend of ours gets about 3mpg, 28ft twin diesels at 20+ ktns.

If you are willing to travel everywhere at 5knts then you will get considerably more.

Quite right... Long time dead.
