Hartlepool marina approach

It is some years now that I last visited Hartlepool marina, for whatever reason two boats from our marina ran aground on easter weekend shortly after departing the lock in the channel. (both later refloated).

My question is has the approach channel changed after the longscar bouy to the marina or is the approach channel now buoyed ?

My deepest draft is 1.1m so I assuming I can still 'lock in' 3 hrs of +/- high water ???

Hi Mike,

Nowt changed mate, your pals were not looking at sector light.

Going out near low water sometimes catches folk out cos they make a long curve but the channel goes directly from loch gates to centre of the piers.

You'll be fine if you keep it white,

Thanks Andy, guess you may be right knowing them.

As I understand it they went into mud 'after' the piers but before the longscar bouy, I think they misjudged and got the tide wrong !

Sorry would rather not say, as we have already suggested to them a visit to 'Spec Savers' and I don't want to add to their already embarrassment as they were not amateurs’ !!

I just don't want to repeat the embarrassment on my next visit hopefully next month

No worries just one of our boats was in Hartlepool over the weekend with a boat from RQ and I just wondered.........

Hi Geoff

I used to keep my last boat - a Parker 31 - in Hpool. She had a lifting keel that gave me a min draft of less than 2 ft.

It was great fun coming into the marina around low tide - people seemed to think I knew the deep channel - even though there wasn't one - The marina has had to warn a few off to stop them grounding trying to follow me.

Not something I can do now in Olive.
