I am in the process of replacing the plastic furler drum on my Harken Mk3 Unit2 jib furler. The old one came off with no problem and after some cleaning and prep of the torque tube collar, the new one seemed to fit on correctly. The drum comes in two halves which fit together over the collar and then the two halves bolt together. There are two large "tabs" on the outside of the collar the drum attaches to that fit into indents on the inside of the drum. All this was aligned and seemed ready to bolt together. The 4 bolts all bit into their respective captive nuts and I tightened them in turn, the two halves of the drum came together until they were about 3mm apart. At that point, continuing to tighten the bolts drew the top and bottom of the drum together but left a gap in the middle "body" of the drum. Said another way, the top plate and bottom plate of the drum are touching, the two halves making what appears to be one unit. But the body of the drum between the two halves has a 3mm gap on each side. At this point the bolts are quite tight and the point where the two halves should meet at the bold are perhaps 2mm apart.
I thought I had somehow misaligned the tabs in the collar with the indents in the drum. I took it apart and very carefully reassembled but had the identical result.
I could continue to tighten the bolts till I draw the two halves together but fear breaking plastic. Has anyone else fitted a replacement drum and run across this?
