Harken Electric Halyard Winch for Beneteau Ocianis 43 - where do the wires go?

Spent the day on friend's boat studying the problem. There's a lovely space above an unscrewable cover under the winch where the motor can be sited. We thought "how wonderful! here is a boat that has been designed to accept this conversion!" Then we tried to find the cable passage and only ended up with fiberglass rash. It looks like I'm going to have to perforate my friend's boat. Does anyone know how Beneteau do it when they deliver one with the motor already fitted?
