Hardy Seawings Fuel Gauge Sender

My fuel gauge has stopped reading which I thought would be a simple fix of cleaning the contacts on the tank. After crawling around the bilges and the cockpit the tank appears to be behind the mid-berth bulkhead with no access. Surely they wouldn't have built it in with no access hole? Anyone any experience of the Hardy Seawings 305 (1994) ? Cheers chaps !

Hi Corky - yep, that was how it was on mine, totally inaccessible! I wish I could give you a pointer, but I really have no idea how you might get to the sender without major surgery. Also I don't think there's anything like enough headroom over the tank to withdraw the sender even once you've hacked your way in; those wema senders do not flex.

not the answer I wanted but did suspect that was the case. I've had all the 'experts' crawling all over her. I'll try Hardy on Monday.

Good luck Corky, but hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised?

We had a problem with the sender in our Sessa........took the midship cabin apart, and were just about to start cutting through the engine room bulkhead..........when we discovered a cunningly hidden tiny hatch hidden under the cockpit table support!

Sometimes the builders do think of these things......even if they 'forget' to mention them in the manuals.

I've emailed Hardy and in the meantime I'm taking apart the cockpit seat that's above the tank location to see if there's a hatch as you say. Cursory inspection has drawn a blank.

For anyone interested I had a prompt reply from Hardy who advise me to remove the midships cockpit seat to reveal a large floor panel secured by self-tappers and the tank and sender is accessed through there. Sounds reasonable and I'll check it out when I'm down next.
