Time seem to be changing. Once upon a time round these parts it was threads on blue ensigns, MAB vs AWB, motorboat wash and colregs that got things buzzing. Now it seems to be anchors, radar reflectors, booze and (still) colregs that roust out disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

So what are the next big rabble rousers gonna be?

My prediction:
1) Yots from China - are they any good?
2) Microwaves on boats - will they calm macrowaves?
3) How sensible is it to have one instrument that does GPS, plotting, radar, tides, weather, comms, AIS and lets you watch Corrie?
4) The new improved 2008 colregs (yots avoid everything. If they don't it's OK to run'em down.)

This may be implied in your orginal list under "radar reflectors", but if not can I nominate as a current hardy annual "AIS vs Radar".

I nominate as an upcoming one "Use of AIS virtual buoys instead of real ones" ie nothing there in the acutal sea, but a mark on the AIS display.

Question about microwaves

In rough weather, is a microwave better than a drogue and is a series of microwaves even more efficient still?

Re: Question about microwaves

You would need to be sure to space your microwaves correctly along the tow otherwise you will get phase addition which could result one big tsunami sized microwave which could poop you. Although it could be argued that at 1 000 000 microwaves to a wave this effect can be discounted.
