Where is the sense in this. Today I have just collected a stack of " charts".
The Great Barrier Reef, as some of you will know, stretches from Fraser Island all the way up till the Torres strait, some 1500 km. The whole reef is a Marine Park. The Australian Governments Great Barrier Park Authority has released a number of "charts" showing difference zones. See sample later.
The charts comes in paper form or all the charts on a cd-rom. Software has been made to make it interactive with GPS and chart plotters, so you will know where you are. ALL THIS FOR FREE. Yet, it says it should not be used for navigation. The charts is very detailed, has all reefs and rocks on it, but no lights or depth info. These "charts MUST have been made from Hydrographic charts. So my question is this. If they can give away free charts for the marine park, then why do we have to pay up to $30 for a chart that show just a few thing more. Sailing in daylight you don't need light, and the water being crystal clear all the way, you would have to fall asleep to run aground.
Sample: Difference colour indecate difference uses. Some fishing, some not.
