I previously asked about salcombe with regard to returning after a boycott due to price and rib racers. After 5 years cruising there I gave up and avoided it like the plague, not the harbour staff etc as i found them more than helpful, but the general feeling and rude boat users.
The seasons not been good and plans to get away have not been fulfilled but still a little timet o explore before the dreaded layup.
I cruise mostly the westcountry from Brixam down to the scillies
Is there a prefered harbour of the forum is so where?
Any Harbours where members would still avoid?
I sail out of falmouth and would love feedback of my home port form visitors aswell.

I.m just back from a cruise down West again. I enjoy some of the smaller places like Mevagissey but they are often too crowded in mid season. If you have a smallish bilge keeler there are some great places.

We recently spent a night in St Michael's Mount ("we don't provide facilities so we don't charge harbour dues"). It was beautiful and we were lucky to time it so we could visit the castle as well on a tide.

Since advice from the forum I have been to the upper reaches of the Fal this season which we really enjoyed, in fact we got right up to Truro last week (not bad for a boat 12m x 7m).

There are some nice spots up the Tamar/Lynher, e.g. the Dandy Hole. If your air draft is under 15m you can get up to Cothele, Morwelham and Calstock.

In Dartmouth, Salcombe and Newton Ferrers you'll pay through the nose of course and Fowey is not far behind.

try going round the corner as far as Padstow. There are some anchorages and harbours in between Lands End and Padstow like Sennen or St Ives or Newquay but they are good weather only places. The costs change like magic back to sensible levels when you pass cape cornwall.

Quite like Penzance - it's a "real" port rather than just a yottie spot. Mousehole is OK for drying. Never much liked Newlyn
