Our local Harbour authority have all but banned recreational use and restricted access to one craft to those who do not need to travel by car, stating that one should 'ask a friend' who lives locally to mooring to check things out.

So do I get that we are restricted in the use and access to our craft, so depriving us mooring holders, of our rights to use our craft , so do we recieve compensation on our mooring costs, either as a Cash Back or rebate on next years renewll charges from said Harbour Authority ?

Anyone had experience in claiming or authority comming forward and stating how to claim refunds or reductions ?

Some posts on here have stated the following actions by marinas: -

1. No changes to the current fee.
2. Discounts for the lock down period.
3. No fee for April and review afterwards.

There have also ben discussions that state the service is being provided, for those who are on moorings or in marinas, hence fee needs to be paid; continued support for the business, pay the fee; frustration of contract with parties not being able to fulfil their obligations, letter to service provider asking to be released; Claiming Force Majeur, requires a clause to be in place in contract, preferably both parties agree, otherwise may have to test position.

In my case, I have paid my annual fee early to keep loyalty discount and early renewal discount but my boat is stuck in a yard where some works were being carried out. I have decided to keep the contract running with my marina as it maintains a certain amount of goodwill. My marina is not offering anything. I have dropped them a line asking them to consider credit. If they refuse, I am not minded to cancel as I want the berth when this is all over which I expect to be around August.

I guess it is down to each organisation how they respond either individually or to all their clients.

You're still taking up a mooring.
You should think yourself lucky that you mooring cost is probably not huge in the scheme of things.

Yes quite so Capt, but the Boat Yard shut up shop due to the Virus before launching my boat, or any other boats actually, so most moorings are without a boat on them; The Harbour Master appears to state that no one should go to their boat at all, ie, a ban on recreational Boating, so in effect he is banning us from mooring our boats to his moorings ?

No on the cost its not huge, but bloody inconvenient all the same.

Have boat but its ashore and nowhere to launch it into and yard will not allow 'others' to take it away = a conundrum for sure

What part of " Essential " dont you understand?

Very upsetting, as it is for all of us. But is your boat essential? I doubt it, unless it is also your home.

So, like the rest of us, get on with it.

First mate and I are missing our boat in Wellington Harbour greatly. It is in a Marina berth less than 5 kms away, operated by Wellington Council. They have decreed that only the three liveaboard boats should use the pier and toilet facilities.

We are obeying this for the greater good.

As, IMHO, should you.

The harbourmaster isn't, the government is. It is currently illegal for you to leave your home without a reasonable excuse, and "I want to launch my boat" isn't one. In addition, whining about how to screw a few quid out of the harbour authority, which you would presumably like to continue in operation for your future benefit, is not a good look.

Ahoy there perv; well who said that I wanted to launch my boat, not me, only stated that I could not due to the restrictions; I do want to visit my Boats and 'Lay them up' properly though, secure the covers, open drain cocks, check battery, secure ladder and other theiveable items, secure the cabin etc etc

So as a well Seasoned Experienced Boatman would condider doing these tasks as essential to good boatmanship, if expecting to have boat out of reach for quite a period, not to mention the Insurance Company requirements

Might have been a very good idea to have announced the start of the isolationism with a day or two to prepare for it

I guessed what was coming (clever old me) and made it to my boat and back on the last day on which CalMac ferries would take non-islanders. Although nothing needed done, I'm glad I had a chance to check that ll was well.

Seriously? Were you really so out of touch you didn't see this coming? Your lack of foresight isn't an excuse to start demanding compensation. As others have pointed out it isn't necessarily the harbour master that has banned you going to your boat, that's down to the government, the harbour authority have just said you're not playing with it in their back yard and the marina/yard have said you're not coming on their property.

In fairness to the OP I think it was only inevitable there would be a legally enforced lockdown once the pictures of people using the first decent weekend of the year to visit beauty spots started circulating.

Previously there had been lots of scare stores - such as those about London being shut down (complete with old photos of the army being 'deployed') which lead to further panic buying - which have so far come to nothing

Um! They are expecting between 800 to 8000 deaths a day by 17 April (crossing fingers but it may not help here) People are dying and most that go into intensive havent come out yet so probably many will never except as lung-cripples or dead.

If damaged an existing boat could be covered by insurance and you can buy a new boat if still alive,. Obviously the government should have acted earlier but its an emergency and us humans are only blessed with 20-20 hindsight

PS Some of my active neighbours have died of covid 19, not just old crocks. I quite frankly am scared and worried for myself and my vulnerable friends and family members. STAH unless essential to go out

Anyone who didn't see the lock down happening, was living on another planet.

There was no need for any warning, the only surprise was why it didn't happen for so long.
