Personally the one in the foreground is a vanity project

Indeed it is, but one with style and elegance. We seem to have lost the art of being distinctive without being gross.

The buildings behind on the bank would be lumps however they were dressed up, given the amount they're squeezing onto each site, but the way they're dressed up doesn't do them any favours (and I'm a fan of contemporary design). They all look somehow even more dated than the old bridge that was faux ancient when it was new.

Aha.... but remember all the fuss about 30 St Mary Axe...now a design classic ?
Spect "they" moaned about The White Tower when it was built...Whats wrong with a good olde fashioned Mott and Bailey made out of wood...etc etc.:)
