Hanse 301 experienced opinions sought

Thinking about a hanse 301 any pointers prior to viewing. Required for some coastal sailing - no racing. Usually will be sailed two up with regular solo efforts (no experience of long overnight cruises but have been messin' 'round in boats for a good while and had a Westerly griffon in a previous life) and the odd fair weather weekend. In short it is safe, solid, stiff, giddy, etc?

The 301 is a development of the 291... which was a slightly altered Aphrodite 291.... a Carl Beyer design purchased outright by Hanse in 93....

They sail REALY well and are great for shorthanding.. build quality on the boats is pretty good... there were some grumblings of keel bolt rusting bolts on early boats... but I dont think that this was a real issue... and I havent seen any mention of this since the early 2000's.....

They are a really pretty boat... and I would not hesitate to buy one.

Get a good survery and you will be fine!

The one that I would really like is the 333.... which is a development of the early Finngulf 33.....

Thanks for that reply Photodog. Yes, bigger 333 would be nice but way over budget. Have you sailed on them are they 'tender' ie one of the many AWB which need early reefing?
 
Both of them are 70-80's designs........ Neither are dependant on much form stability... so in that respect you will find them more tender than a modern yacht... they are far more Contessa 33 than Gibsea 33... so will tend to heel over and then settle into a groove... The deep keel option (Which I believe on the 301 was a lead keel).. will be more capable than the regular keel... I cant really comment as to if you will have to reef earlier/later than a "Modern AWB" as that is entirely down to taste and what your consider a modern AWB.... which in fact neither of these are...
Dont forget a stiff boat relies alot on form stability....

I have not had much experience on either.. just a couple of test sails.... but in both cases I was very happy with the way they sailed.... Then 301 was high on my list but I rejected it as being a bit small... and I kick myself now for not getting the 331.. but swmbo wanted a wheel...

If you want a boat that sails well... that is well balanced.... and easy to handle... and are not that hung up on form stability... then you will like this boat a lot... its a proper sailing boat!

What else are you looking at??

Hanse 301 opinions sought

Thanks Photodog and Aquaplane. Does anyone else know about this model. I've had a brief look and initially it looks very small and the aft cabin somewhat tight. This boat is with the 19hp engine (immaculate) so power shouldn't be a problem.
There must be more forumites who know about these boats. Please chip in as i need all the help and advice I can get.
