My new (to me) boat has hank-on foresails. It is suggested that at the end of the season - Now! that hanks are wash and oiled/greased.
Some of the hanks, most infact, need some lubrication.
In these days of roller 'Genys' can any 'old-timers' remember what they used to lubriated they 'hanks' with, which did NOT stain the sailcloth.
The answer needs to be 'simple' as I live in a basically a small fish boat area. Where you can only buy antifouling in 1liter cans and yachts are what visiting tourists use. So theres no 'sailmaker' within a days drive of here.
Cheers!

If they are the type that come of easy... that is with the bronze tail that goes thro the ring on the luff. take them of and heat them up in a pan of oil... hotter the better.

If they are held on with whipping its probably not worth the bother, but the hot oil really gets into the surfaces.
