Handy Siphoning Device

Hi All,

At the Southampton boat show I saw a demonstration of a handy gadget that removed the sucking out of siphoning. It was a small device that went on the end of a hose and it pumped the liquid through the hose to start the siphoning process. All you had to do to achieve this was to shake the hose up and down.

Anyway the point of this post is that I didn't buy one at the time but would like to get hold of one now. Does anyone know where I could buy of one of these little pumps?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Got one at the beginning of the season - available mail order in some of the 'freebie' mail order magazines 'Innovations'.
You may also be able to get hold of them now from the likes of Plastimo.

Said to be suitable for a range of liquids including petrol and diesel (though havent used it other than for water yet)

There was one in a car accessory shop I went into last week, "Wilco" on Dereham Road, Norwich. Cost about £5. Try your local.

There is a simple (and virtually free) device for easy siphoning that you can make in a couple of minutes. Find a spare cap that fits the can you want to siphon from (thats the hardest part) Make two holes in the top. Through one hole put a short (3 - 4 inch) length of hose. Through the other put a long length (two and a half times the depth of the can) and seal it in place so that the bottom of the hose reaches close to the bottom of the can. Now tighten this on to the can full of liquid and blow through the short length. The liquid will rise up through the long pipe and siphon all by itself.

In a perfect world you would make two and keep one for water and the other for fuel.

There's another device that pumps / sucks all ......

Get a large rubber bung and fix a rubber / plastic pipe into a hole through the centre ..... make it a tight and air-tight fit.

This rubber bung should be a soft sort that fits the bottom of the toilet bowl ...... push it home so that it stays in place and then pump the handle, it will now act as a pump via the bung / pipe combination to wherever you wish, as long as the suction pipe is long enough ! Properly fitted it has incredible suction ........
