Handy Seagull accessory

Were these a factory option?

Assume you are referring to the uplifting bracket not the "out of order bag"?Don't think so,but I do have about 50 issues of PBO from the 1970's so will have a look.Havn't used my Seagull for about 10 years now...wonder if it will start on the first pull with the old fuel?

Canvas covers were available as accessories. £1 in 1973 when my FP was new

Saving old Seagulls ones now available I believe from Saving old Seagulls.

Possession of the type pictured ( parking meter cover ?) probably a criminal offence

Is that a stern anchor wannabe or a theft deterrent...
Actually, a slightly fussy seagull would make an excellent high-theft area motor for the tender, no? ( and you'd hear em getting away AND be able to catch em..
Seagull: Really, the perfect motor for the world! Where's Mr T?

Pete then why "The Seagull Accessory"?The bag could be used for any motor (it's not branded) or even the wife ,stick that over the old bags head!!!I think he meant the bracket.

No good, Seagull Engines are the cockroaches of the seas. They will outlive all other boats and engines by several million years, unlike the soft namby pamby modern engines.

Maybe,

but it would have saved a lot of people heaps of bother if they ( Seagull engines ) had been marketed as anchors to begin with.

BTW I would love to ' buy British ' but I have to say my Mariner 2hp 2 stroke bought in 1987 is still going strong at first pull, after 3 complete dunkings - yes did require new big ends and gaskets one time, but still a great engine and light enough for me or any potential Mrs Seajet to carry.

I was referring to the bag placed over a Seagull outboard saying "out of order"
I intended it to be a joke. Sorry for the confusion.

Did they ever export them (D-Day doesn't count)? I've never seen one abroad, strange given their claim of being "the best outboard in the world".

You're not related to David Of Mersea by any chance?

There seems to be quite a following in Australia where I beleive pirate copies my also have been made.

Quite few in N America too ITYWF

Every now and then brand new, unused ones turn up still in their original shipping crates

The slogan you quote may have been used at one time but it was changed to " The best Outboard Motor for the World. That is what is on the documentation and the flywheels of my two.
IIRC there is something about the slogans on the SOS website.

I bow to your superior knowledge!

Not sure that's a good sign though ;-)

Bit like Marx and Lenin on opium then, ok.
