One of my two Cobra handhelds has died at 7 years old - transmits OK but receive is dodgy. I liked them as they had proper knobs for volume and squelch, and I truly hated another Silva radio I had on which volume and squelch were button-sequence-pushes.

All the current Icoms and SHs seem to have squelch only as a button selection. The old Raymarine 101 seems to have proper knobs - anyone have any comments + or - ?

I've got an Entel HH. It has a most awkward squelch adjustment, but it's set on the lowest setting and I never need to adjust it. So it's not an issue.
In fact, I think I'd have to refer to the instructions if I did need to alter it.
Maybe it's because the Clyde isn't a "noisy" place.

I thought I would hate the button sequence volume and squelch but actually it's not an issue at all.. Like anything you use it and it just becomes normal.. I have the SH HX300E..

Have a SH HX 851 and has button control rather than twist knobs and find it quite easy to use. Would recommend it, it seems quite stable and squelch does not seem to need adjusting very often.
