Handheld VHF-Urgent Info required

I possess a European handheld VHF (bought and used in Holland). Will this work on a forthcoming trip to the Bahamas? i.e Is the Euro Channel 16 the set at the same frequency as the Bahamian channel 16? etc. etc.

There are a few channel changes in europe but these are mainly for use in inland waterways. Otherwise there are only two worldwide channel configurations. USA Channels and International. Channel 16 is the same everywhere. Doesn't the set have an "Int/US" changeover switch?
