I've never owned a GPS and would like to get a handheld unit for use on my cruising dinghy. I am a total newbie to this, so is it possible to get something with a usable in-built chart? And what sort of level of detail would it show?

I have an H2o with Nauticpath.
It's OK but the screen is covered with symbols at some zoom levels as to be unreadable. Once the zoom level is right it's not too bad.
Zoomed in close the level of detail is pretty good.
Nauticpath has lots of popups which clutter the screen at times (maybe they can be supresed?)
However , all told they are good value for a handheld with charting included.
Battery life is only average , say 12 hrs use ?
If you want a combined power and data cable to connect to your DSC radio and to provide power they are expensive and IIRC only available from the USA.(you get a power cable in the pack)
The screen is sunlight viewable but is still a problem for me wearing my photochromic specs.
