Has anyone got any ideas on how to put a stainless cable half way down the handrails on my boat with out drilling holes through them ? I have looked every where for a clamp with an eye that’s not too bulky but found nothing, the railings are 6 inches round and I would need 10 clamps.

I'm guessing you mean the liferail? Your boat must be on a par with QE2 with such substantial stanchions! I make that almost 2 inch diameter.

Could you give us an idea what thickness of S/S wire you plan to use?

The 2 lengths of wire I have have got a turn buckle on one end and are 8mm thick and yes the stanchions are just under 2 inches wide and 3 ½ feet high from the back of the wheelhouse to the bow and that’s why I want to put a cable in the middle. And as for tying it on with string “well” I would not want to come on your boat as who knows what’s holding it together !

In an MOB situation you can cut a bit of string a damn site quicker than you can undo a shackle or turnbuckle. You do have a knife to hand in the cockpit don't you?

Re: Hand rails

Do you mean something like these but to fit 50mm dia tube?
