Hand Held VHF

Realising recently that my hand held VHF has some shortcomings. I'm looking to replace the non buoyant radio with something that does float :o Appreciate any recommendations or please point me in the direction of some recent reviews.

Standard Horizon is the brand to look for. At budget price, the HX290E is £119 from JG Tech, complete with the essential extra of a 12v charging lead. Floats, has Li-ion battery, has 3 year warranty. At premium price, the HX851E with built-in GPS and DSC is £195 from JG Tech, again including the optional £16 charging lead.

I like my HX851E, I would replace it with the same if I lost it.

All handheld VHF's are approximately equally crappy. Little reason to change one crappy handheld for another.

I have several crappy handheld VHF radios. My favorite is a SH HX851. But I actually liked the crappy Cobra stolen in Cherbourg a couple of years ago better. It was cheap, but actually less crappy than most, with lovely controls, better than the SH.

Why, really, do you care whether it floats? Keep your existing VHF; it is really no more crappy than anything else you might waste money on.
