Yesterday we delivered my son Jonatrhan`s new Sealine 42 (Double O Heaven) from Hamble to Chichester Marina. Wind was SSW about force 5. It was a bit lumpy around the forts, and the entrance to Chichester across the bar, was not for the faint hearted. We cruised at 24Knots and did Hamble entrance to inside Chichester harbour in 1 hour 10 minutes. A really great trip.

Sounds a great trip, and really satisfying. Nice to get the new boat home too I bet. I can remeber bringing my new (at the time) Larson round to the Hamble from Littlehampton a few years ago in a really lumpy sea, and we got totally blitzed through Selsey Bill, but the thrill of arriveing safely at our berth was unforgettable! Good luck to your son with his new boat!

Hi Barry,
Thanks for your good wishes.
Yesterday would not have been a good day to go through the Looe channel, or round the Owers, so if it had to go to Littlehampton, forget it.
Regards, David.

What a lovely turn of phrase! A whole voyage in a few words. Round the forts is the only place I've ever really found out what people mean by falling off a wave.

So, just how exciting was the Bar?

Reminds me of us doing the same journey last summer but the other way around where the weather was blowing a 5 with a securite warning of 6. The bar was exciting as we crept out and the boat ahead would disappear and reappear from view. What was interesting was how much flatter the sea became one we passed the forts and entered the Solent proper.

Hooking a right into Southampton Water was differant again and there was a great feeling when we entered the lock at Hythe.

Thanks for the memory prompt

Nick
