Does anybody here have one of these? I’d like to know how it works. By that I mean how do you get to your boats? If you use a tender, where do you keep it and launch from?
Apart from the obvious, no mains hook up etc, how do you get on with it? Is it better or worse than a marina? Or is it purely a cost decision?
Im considering it for as and when I upgrade to an 11m boat. Any info on experiences will be welcome.
 
I had a mid river club mooring for a couple of years. Compared with a marina berth, there was one advantage - price.
Disadvantages were numerous - no water or electricity as you mention.
Access : we joined the Royal Southern and used their bum boat. Good service but obviously time limited eg for evening returns. Also, mid week, their car parking. Weekends were hopeless.
Safety: there is a lot of traffic on the river, we found some wear and tear on the hull from wash, also from dinghies failing to tack in time!
Security: you boat is much more at risk from light-fingered *****s who take a liking to your kit.
Servicing: you will find it more time-consuming to nip out to the boat to do usual small servicing jobs. Your professional engineers will find it harder to get out to the boat so may charge you more.
Conclusion: we weighed up the extra cost vs the extra usage and easier usage and moved up to one of the excellent marinas up river. The more valuable your boat, the better the marina looks.
 
For me with a 12.5 metre boat, its the difference between £1200 on the river and £12000 in Port Hamble. The boat is set up for cruising with solar and 400l of water. There are various options for access; join the RAFYC or R Southern using thier parking, launch services, dinghy and outboard storage (RAFYC); use Mercury for keeping a dinghy and parking (c. £1000).
