We're looking to spend a few days over New Year doing a bit of day sailing out of Hamble Point. Can anyone recommend a nice B&B and Pub in the area (within reasonable taxi fare) where we can celebrate New Years Eve?

Seasons Greetings to you all

Brian

We always enjoy a nice curry in Hamble-le-Rice. I believe that the italian is fab too, but you must book in advance for that..

the curry in Hamble sucks! Go to the one in Botley, Hedge End or the one by Swanwick railway station for a decent meal.

What's with this "le-rice business? Everyone knows it as Hamble. According to my dictionary of place names this means "crooked river". The "le rice" being a French affectation meaning "By the rushes"

All the curry houses mentioned are poor - I live in the area. The Italian is a bit bland.

If you leave Hamble pontoon and walk up the little main street you will come to a Pub on the right called the Victory - it has a good atmosphere, good beer and I've found excellent food (Steak & Kidney pie!). I've not found any other pubs any good in Hamble (I assume you'll not have a cer so it needs to be local). The Bugle is awful.

There is a restaurant down by the water which looks very nice but I've not been in.

As for B&B - sorry can't help.

I live in Hamble and yes, both the Victory and the White Hart are excellent pubs for food and beer, although both are busy at weekends. Give the Bugle a big miss, even though it looks lovely from the outside the beer is crap and it's run by spotty kids who don't give a damn. The King & Queen is a young racers pub - good if you want to get stoked up on cheap rum doubles. The Key at the bottom of the High St, opposite the Bugle is a reasonably good wine bar but very expensive. The Italian is good - reasonable and lively. The Tamarind curry house is good some days, not so good the next - always a bit of a gamble. Ten minutes walk up the road takes you to the best fish & chips in the area. Finally, the Ketch Rigger at Hamble Point marina ain't too bad either for a beer and a pie.
I'll be in the White Hart by the open fire with a pint of HSB.
Good luck
