I've been looking for halyard stoppers - the coloured plastic balls with a hole in that you can put on a spin halyard and similar to stop the rope getting jammed in the sheave if pulled up too far. Any idea where to get them from? The local chandlers don't have them and I cannot find them online. Looking to fit them on 8mm, 10 and 12mm rope.

I think you'll find the widely available rope stoppers are in 5mm, 6mm and 8mm sizes with outside diameters of 18mm, 28mm and 33mm diameters. A rope stopper for a 12mm line would have a diameter of at least 50mm! It would be like having golf balls attached to the ends of your halyards.
I'd prefer to be hit by a figure of eight knot in the end of the line.
Do people really use rope stoppers of this size?

The plastic ball goes on the sail end, stops the halyard going into the sheave also on the ens of the spinny sheets to keep the pole free

Saltyjohn,

You have a point there. I'd not taken that into consideration, especially when you have to tie a stopper knot in it anyway.

I use them on my two reefing lines but its only about 6mm.

Ahh! With a sickening thud the penny drops. Not rope stoppers at all; a different application. I've only seen discs used for that purpose, not balls, and I think we called them shackle guards.
RWO might be a source for the balls. Schaefer and Forespar sell the discs.
