Halyard Shackle

I have a halyard shackle that needs replacing. It has a retaining pin to stop it falling off the halyard, does anybody know how to remove these?

Held on by a rawl pin inside the sleeve, needs driving out with a suitable implement

But some are welded in place - inspect the ends of the retaining pin carefully.

If its not a welded bar punch it out with a pin punch.

But If you are replacing it anyway dont mess around, cut it off and replace with shackle of your choice eg

If you are going to replace it with a similar shackle you will need to splice the eye through it. alternatively you can use a plain shackle and attach it with a halyard knot. holds the shackle secure without the need for the bar and easier to do than a splice.

If the OP gets the new shackle supplied with the pin out then it can be fitted to the current spliced eye.

The description of the Wichard ones in my link above reads ,

"Wichard Dropped Forged Key Pin & Bar Shackles

Half turn opening Captive pin

With removable bar.

Forged in 316l stainless steel"
