Ok I've made a basic mistake!! Dismantled my lovely old Hurley22 which I bought last year, and after 4 months of TLC out of the water I am now trying to put the mast rigging back together!! - there is a halyard which runs over a pulley in front of the cross trees - no idea what it's for - a storm jib ? Also not sure where the main gib halyard runs from at the top of the mast - I have two pulleys either side of the part of the masthead which points forward ( main halyard runs THROUGH the masthead) so does it matter which pulley the jib halyard runs through? - and is the other pulley for the spinnaker?
Would very much appreciate any advice - she goes back into the water on Monday! - regards Hamish

The one at cross trees level will likely be for a spinnaker pole uphaul. The two jib sheaves will be one for the jib and one for a spare halyard that could also be used for a spinnaker. If they are side by side does not matter which one you use, but if one behind the other the forward one will be used for the spinnaker as it needs to run forward of the forestay.

Fantastic - that makes a lot of sense and have just freed up the slide for the loop for the spinnaker pole - just need to get a spinnaker next!! - did someone mention the old adage " like standing under a shower in an Armani suit ripping up £50 notes"........ Many thanks again, Hamish

Assuming it is a mast head rig from your description. The 2 side by side halyard sheaves at the front will likely be for jib halyard and a spare. The spinacker halyard is usually on a swinging block hung on a kind of crane or SS loop from the top of the cap plate and going forward about 80mm. This to get the spin halyard and spin forward and free of the forestay. A spin halyard next to a jib halyard is likely to cause some fouling and chafe as spin tends to swing a long way sideways when shy. good luck olewill
