I currently have two automatic 1.3kg Halon fire extinguisher in my engine compartment, one is empty and as these are no longer available what would you recommend. I have been told that the powder extinguisher's if they go off accidentally cause one hell of a mess. If so can you purchase something called FM200 (non powder) which i noted as a replacement in the MBM last year.

You could use Co2; non messy, I have had this one at work a few times and I don't know what to advise customers except to suggest you contact a fire extinguisher company for advice or the firebrigade fire prevension officer, and last but not least throw the ball in your insurance company's court and watch them duck the bouncing question as it gets handed around. Have fun and press them for a answer,in writing, point out they will pay for the clean up if you discharge powder.
