Hallberg Rassy 370 Launch

Looks like it’s got all the things HR owners have spent the past two decades telling us are bad. Perhaps BenJenBav were just ahead of their time after all 🤷‍♀️

Looks very similar to our Oceanis 38, twin rudders/helm, rectangular windows in the hull etc

The modern HR yachts have been more performance with twin rudders and twin wheels for 5 years or so. This boat has been on the market for 5 months. So nothing hugely new, just continuation of their recent trend.

The bigger issue HR seem to be exporting is a collapse in orders from the USA due to tariff increases and uncertainties. It seems like quite a lot of their bigger boats were bought from USA - many taking delivery in Europe to cruise here before taking back across the pond. But the risk of big tariffs on a multi-million dollar boat when they got there seemingly stopped that market.
Hope they are not too badly impacted as a great boat company.

I got the impression all their boats ended up in West Scotland. Seeing another Jeanneau was quite the spectacle this summer 🤣

if the market is dropping
Do you think I would get a discount on a 40CS
The necessary extras over & above the base price are ridiculously over priced so they have room to haggle
Haggle with HR? One for the gags thread methinks. Our relationship with them was purely business, and all went well, but they are known to be totally inflexible. We met someone who wanted a modified saloon on his 39. After a lot of argument and him threatening to pull out, they gave him what he wanted, for a surcharge of £5000-ish. The following year his saloon was offered as a no-cost option. On the other hand, they are reliable, and you will get your boat on the day promised.

…..Or earlier. Stargazer was ordered, as the banking crisis was biting, in autumn 2009. Orders were cancelled. HR asked if I’d like her for spring, rather than autumn 2010. My only problem was that I’d planned to sail her home, from Orust. But didn’t fancy the trip in February/March. A way was found to have her road freighted over to the Hamble, for Transworld to commission.

We bought ours in 2000 and part of the process was a banker’s guarantee of some kind. This came as a sheet of paper which I kept in a file with the other papers and took with me when we collected the boat from Ellos. Before receiving the boat I had to hand over the guarantee, and learned that the piece of paper was worth as much as the boat, which might have caused me some concern if I’d known about it earlier.

I met 'The Bear" once Christof Raasay, the founder. Short encounter in Gibraltar.

Just sayin
One of the founders certainly used to sit on board throughout SIBS and was very interested in feedback, so I dare say quite a few have met him.

A few years ago the HROA had an anniversary dinner in the Warrior’s gun deck. This was a memorable affair, if only because my wife was seated next to Magnus Rassy. This turned out to be something of a trial from which she still hasn’t fully recovered. Magnus was of course the guest of the association and invited to speak at the end of the meal. His speech, in its entirety, went something like “Thank you for inviting me and good luck for the next twenty five years”.

He’s certainly brutally direct, in a debate. But with an urbane smile and silky smooth delivery. No doubt one of the ingredients, in his magic formula for success, in an industry in which so many of his competitors have fallen by the wayside.
