I've been having real problems with my inflatable dinghy that needs two different pressures. It has standard Halkey Roberts valves but the inflatable pump (obviously cheap) has no manometer and the bit you insert into the valve doesn't have a doo doo sort of thing like a bar inside that presses the spring valve in to make it easy to inflate. Is it normal to have a bar thinghy doo doo in the inflater? Any recommendations for a great pump that's easy to use and has a manometer to check pressure?

Thanks.

Is it so fussy you need to measure the pressure? I just pump the tubes until they seem hard enough. I pump up my rib with a pump that doesn't fit, just hold it on the outside.

It's supposed to have two different pressures, one for the main tubes and a very much higher one for the floor and the under floor tube. Without the right fitting to go into the valve it's extremely difficult to get the air in.

If you go to a chandlers or camping shop you should be able to buy a set of pump adapters that fit on the end of the hose and let you connect to just about any valve. They cost a couple of quid and usually come on a ring which you can slip over the hose so they're always there....
That said, I've never had a problem with the Halkey Roberts type valves inflating through them with a simple collar that fits the hole. Pump up tubes until they feel hard enough, pump up floor until pump wheezes and farts cos the pressures so high. Might be that the valves are a little sticky if you're having trouble with them. Exercise them a bit may sort the problem.
