Got to boat yesterday evening with a cooler full of beer to find a leaflet on the helm seat. Edit: leaflet had the police logo on it hence knowing it was plod.
Said leaflet opined that my stuff that was left on view was not security marked so I guess they have been snooping around with a UV lamp.

Never really bothered as the only stuff of any real but debatable value that are not locked away when the boat is unattended are:

An old Garmin fishfinder - black and white model. Pretty worthless.

Plastimo offshore compass. Ditto

The newish Cobra DSC VHF set which would require dealer resetting with a new MMSI code for it to be unidentifiable.

Everything else is locked away including the fascia for the stereo head unit.

I figure that in the unlikely event that someone came aboard with nefarious intent, I would rather they left with those easy items rather than break into the lockers and cabin doors ect.

Felt kind of strange to think someone had been tramping on my boat sometime between friday and yesterday though. I will get a uv marker though and mark my stuff now.

Well, in Copenhagen (Nyhavn) You don't even leave an empty bottle on deck for a few hours, as it will attract the bad guys, and as soon as they're aboard next thing they see something semi-valuable and break in...
So worth considering their advice?
Seems at bit intrusive, though..

My question would be "under what authority" did they enter your boat, which they must have done to check for security markings.

Sheesh! They didn't enter his boat, he has a Bayliner 1952 Cuddy, that would be one of these then.....

Personally, I would be very happy if the old bill was keeping an eye on my boat, and full marks to them for taking the trouble to leave some sensible advice!

By the way TK, very pretty........for a Mobo:D

There is no prohibition in UK law on merely entering (without breaking)someone's boat. It might amount to the tort of trespass, but that is not unlawful

Unaware of what type of boat it is.

Twas this un, so no breaking and entering. It's only a baby with press studs for cockpit security.

Diesel or Petrol? I aren't a mobo enthusiast but if she's the same as those I posted about above, I think they are nice looking jobbies. What's the accommodations like? V berth, Galley, heads?

Aye V berth. Galley= single burner stove that we get out from under the bunk and sit on the engine cover, water tank - billycan. Bog = Portapotty, Heating = portable gas heater that uses same bottles as the stove.

Basic but we manage to overnight an average of at least once a weekend. Or did last year when it was not persisting it down all the time.

It's a 3 litre petrol.

Pardon my ignorance but what does a three litre petrol engine return at river speeds? She sounds like she has all you would need for a weekends cruising, and if the sun's shining I expect she's great fun. I looked at Naburn on Google earth, are you in the marina there? Don't say if you don't want to, I will quite understand.:)

Yep York marina. I get 0mpg at times during winter and about 5 mpg when we have liquid water. Gets a bit parky up ere.

I'm lost now,
So was this in the marina? Take it staff knew they was there since its private and has CCTV ? And did they then proceed to walk up and down all the 290 births checking for things on display ? And unzipping and posting leaflets ?
Or was this up at York ??
